PIERREPONT attached is a hamlet in the village of’AMBLIE which comprises 250 people.

This picturesque village has many charms : old stones, narrow streets, the bridge of the sixteenth century, a splendid Gothic church (must climb sixty steps to reach…).

This town nestled in the middle of two valleys, the Thue and Seulles contrast with the landscape surrounding plain.

Pierrepont is 6 km from the landing beaches midway between Bayeux (15 km) and mud (15 km) and 20 mn of Ouistreham, « la porte vers l’Angleterre ». The village of CREULLY located 2 KM offers all the services and shops and an interesting historical heritage.

A little history…
The presence of the old man as evidenced by human traces dating back to antiquity. For several centuries, the territory is attached to the French nobility. The textile industry is developed in the nineteenth century. Water mills established along the Thue, still functioning until 1945, and treat textiles son but also the grain. After the First World War, Belgian farmers settled on the territory. Spared during the Second World War, although very close to the landing beaches, AMBLIE provides assistance to CAEN welcoming in a refugee center and wounded thousands of victims.

CHURCH
The Romanesque nave dates from the twelfth century, the facade was rebuilt in the thirteenth century. Its portal is surrounded by a torus decorated with rings, unusual pattern that appears in very few places in France.

THE CASTLE OF THE FAMILY OF Achard Bonvouloir
The castle Achard Family Bonvouloir nineteenth century belongs to the descendants of one of the companions of WILLIAM THE CONQUEROR during the Battle of Hastings. It is surrounded by a large park. During the Second World War, a camp to house the thousands of people injured and the city of Caen is located in the building.

LE CHATEAU du lieu dit « LES PLANCHES »
In the sixteenth century, the area belongs to the family of boards and through marriage to the bush Courson. This home is listed at Historic Monument in 1982.

FARM FORTIFIED
Several typical farms with their courtyard, the oldest of the thirteenth century dovecote, stables, his bakery, the granary were revised in the nineteenth century.

An architectural curiosity for our region because Maine Anjou style. A nice family will receive for selling their farm products.

MILLS
Located on Route des Moulins, le village disposait au XIXème siècle d’une dizaine de moulins répartie sur la rivière « la Thue ». Today, mills are unfortunately without wheel. Le « Moulin de la Porte » qui possédait deux roues abrita durant le débarquement la cantine des Canadiens.

OLD BRIDGE PEDESTRIAN
After the last mill Amblie, this bridge limestone CREULLY, dates from the sixteenth century and was restored.

 

PIERRE DE LA CARRIERE D'Orive
In Merovingian, This career has been operating in the open. Cette pierre appelée « carreau d’Orival », more resistant than that of CAEN, was used in the construction of buildings such as CATHEDRAL Bayeux. Ce site est en cours de classement « site classé ».
